In Honor or Memory

In honor of Ellen Durkee and Joanne Gallaher, both Class of ’72: “They are my cherished lifelong friends, and we are all bonded by our shared experience as classmates, but I honor them here for their roles as key organizers for our 40-, 45-, and 50-year events. In 1971, Ellen was elected our class president and Joanne our class treasurer, and both have taken these roles to heart as they’ve planned reunion events that have renewed and strengthened our class spirit.”

In memory of coach Earl Gritton: “Dad was a math teacher and coach from 1955 to 1994. He coached football, wrestling and track at Manhattan High. Dad loved teaching, coaching, and being around all the kids. He was the only coach involved in the first three MHS football state championships. One of his more memorable quotes was ‘Oh, birdseed!’”

In memory of Cathy Brown Lykens, Class of ’72: “A true friend is never truly gone. Their spirit lives on in memories of those who loved them” (author unknown). "Cathy was a lifelong friend and one of a kind!  She had such a gentle, kind, and giving heart.  A voice like an angel — and what a contagious laugh!  So many memories; she blessed my life. A friendship like hers comes along once in a lifetime.”
